Overview of the Graduate School of Life Health Science

Learning Features

In an aging society with a declining birthrate, the Graduate School of Life Health Science aims to develop human resources who contribute to promote health and extend life expectancy of people so that they can lead healthy lives, both physically and mentally. Our curriculum is designed for graduates of health-related fields, such as medical care, health and welfare, as well as current professionals in these fields. The program provides a systematically organized education with organic connections. Students take multiple courses related to their research topics and receive guidance to develop solid expertise in their fields.

Our university is unique in that it has medical schools (the Faculty of Medicine, the Faculty of Nursing, and the Faculty of Rehabilitation) and medical graduate schools (the Graduate School of Medicine and the Graduate School of Nursing). Leveraging these resources, the Graduate School of Life Health Science focuses on health sciences for people of all ages, from children to the elderly. The Graduate School is deeply committed to promoting physical and mental health from medical, health, and welfare perspectives, and is dedicated to promoting the physical and mental health of children and the elderly based on lifelong health sciences. It provides students with the knowledge and specialized skills necessary to construct theories and put them into action.

Curriculum of the Graduate School of Life Health Science

The human resources to be developed in the Graduate School of Life Health Science, as well as the essential educational features for their development, are as follows. In Japan, a community-based, comprehensive care system that provides integrated housing, medical care, nursing care, disease prevention, and lifestyle support has begun to be developed. As this system progresses, cooperation and coordination among professionals in various fields will be necessary to promote disease prevention and health promotion throughout the lifespan, from children to the elderly.

Considering the current social situation, future Japanese policies, and community challenges, the Graduate School will expand its research fields beyond physical therapy and occupational therapy which are the main research fields of the Faculty of Rehabilitation. We view Life Health Science as a lifelong pursuit encompassing physical and mental health, disease prevention, health promotion, and life support, all of which are important issues in Japan. We will train highly skilled professionals and researchers, including physical therapists, occupational therapists, and speech therapists, who will contribute to health, medical care, and welfare fields in Japan in the future.
